September 26, 2026: Held the 33rd memorial service for my mother. I have already lived longer than she did, yet, for some reason, memories of her from my childhood came flooding back.
Our family belongs to the Soto sect, one of the primary branches of Zen Buddhism. Its core teachings emphasize complete devotion to zazen (seated meditation) and the idea that every aspect of daily life is a spiritual practice.
It was also a good opportunity to spend some quality time catching up with my younger brother after a long time.
